Toulmin Argument
House for the Homeless
The claim of this piece is that do not judge anybody just because they are homeless. Its not like they choose to be homeless, many of them that had high hopes just landed in a bad situation. Not everybody who is homeless wants to be stay homeless.
Classical Argument
I am still in the planning/ outline process of my paper. I have done some research and have visited my field site, but there is a lot more research, observations, and hopefully an interview or two to be done. I have not starting writing the actual paper yet but I believe I’ll be ok I think I will have enough to at least have the five pages by Monday. The question that I want to pose to my peer is is my claim clear, and do I have enough evidence to support my argument.

FIrst Field Site
On Thursday I attended my field site where I was to observe sororities. I didn’t have to go far to spot some on the campus on GSU especially not at noon on Thursday since that was one of the “plaza” days for the Greek organizations. As the DJ was playing music and everybody was in the Unity Plaza socializing, some of the sororities started strolling. Strolling is a combination of stepping and dancing, but it’s done in a uniform line. Different Sororities have different have their different styles as far as the strolls. Some have the stereotype of being more aggressive, and therefore it shows in their strolls with the hard steps while others try portraying the class looks and their strolls are lot calmer.
Member of this subculture didn’t interact with members of a different sorority; rather they stayed within the boundaries of their own. It’s as if they all hold a personal grudge against other members of the NPHC sororities excluding the members that have the same membership in the organizations as they do. There wasn’t any terminology used that I didn’t not previously know before I visited my field site. The opportunity did not come up where I was able to talk to any member of any sorority because everybody had class right after the festivities.

Prison Performing Arts: Act V
In class on Friday we listen to one man’s encounter with prisoners that were attempting to perform Act V of the famous Shakespeare play Hamlet.
The author choose a perfect field cite to do his observation of Prison Performing Arts because he actually went to a prison where prisoners where preparing to perform the Hamlet. The prisoners where very cooperative, and didn’t mind him being there. The author was able to talk to many of them about who they played, how they fit their roles, and what they thought about the character they where playing.
The author observation of the subculture gives us a better understanding because of the amount of detail that the author goes into from the opening of the peace that we listened to. The author starts by describing his walk into the prison. He talks about what the prison looks like, and he goes on to describe the different prisoners that he sees. In the room that they prisoners practiced in he noticed a huge black button that always reminded him that he was dealing with dangerous people because the button would set off an alarm that would send many guards with loaded weapons to the room to protect him and the directors. The author also describes the hardships of that the prison actors had to go through that regular actors did not. Among the hardships that the prisoners faced was first to be stripped search before and after every practice, they were put into a hot room for practice, many were uneducated so pronouncing many of the words was a problem, and how much practice time they got with each other. He went on to tell how they had to shout their lines through the bars to each other for extra practice.
The interview techniques that the author used to help understand the subculture was very resourceful. His interviews of the different prisoners in the play help give the reader a inside look on the prisoners perception of the play, and how prisoners expressed how they feel about the characters they are playing. The interviews shows how many of prisoners could easily “get into” the role they played because they felt like they could easily relate to those characters. These interviews help someone like me who does not have access to the prisoners get information that we would not normally get.
The norms and values of this subculture is evident. It shows that the men in the subculture norms are still loosely the same as the other prisoners who are not part of the Performing Arts. They have no special privileges just because they are in the play. These actors however value the play deeply because a few of them use it as a release from their surroundings for that time that they are performing. Others feel like they have changed for the better.

REFLECTION:
In my search upon valid sources for my topic I ran across a source that would be useful subtopic within my paper. The source is a book that has information on the Divine Nine also known as the National Pan-hellic Council which contains the 9 African American Greek Letter organizations. My topic is sororities, and the book that I have will very useful for my paper. This book will reveal why each sorority was founded, and the principles upon which they were founded on. I can also utilize the book for the history, facts, prominent members, and other details about the four historically black women sororities.

Lolita
In class on Wednesday we took a trip to the library learn how to do research through Georgia State’s library website. I put those newly learned tips to the test when I looked up my word which was Lolita. Lolita is a novel that was written back in 1958. It was written by Vladimir Nabokov, who lived in the years between 1899 and 1977, Vladimir Nabokov main character is a precious schoolgirl seduced by a middle-aged man (Oxford English Dictionary). Lolita was only 12 years of age and she was held captive and continually abused (Meyer, Frank S.). The middle aged man name was Humbert. He was a sick individual that found attraction in Lolita. The confused man had a terrible plan to achieve his goal, which was to have Lolita all to himself. His planned was to marry Lolita’s mother, in which he did, the kill her, and drug Lolita and have is way with her. His murder plans did not work, but his wife died anyway in a car accident leaving him with Lolita. He threatens her and bribes her to fulfill his sexually needs. He takes from sleazy motel to sleazy motel so he can perform his sexual fantasies upon her. Soon Lolita ended up pregnant but died shortly after giving birth to a still born child (McGinn, Colin).
Vladimir had to wait for his success because the book rejected by various publishers here in the United States due to the fact of that the book hit so many “wrongs” morally. Even then the Olympia Press finally gave Vladimir his chance (Williams, Gerald). When the novel was finally published it was initially banned in Russia. The book hit the literary mainstream in 1972 even though it was seen as scandalous the erotic bestseller stock grew, and in 1988 it was no longer banned in Russia (Shekhovtsova, O.).
The novel is very popular today.

WHO am I
The author of the piece that I am doing for my paper is Jamal Jenkins better known as the rapper Young Jeezy. The source that I choose to use to find out more information about Jeezy past is on the internet. The world is at your fingertips with our advancement of technology, and any fact can be accessible within seconds. I found a few useful sources that gave me insight on information that I could use in my paper for the ethos appeal.
The process began by me typing in Young Jeezy name in the Google search engine. About 3.2 million hits bout up, and proceed to pick the third listing which was his official def jam site. The site contains pictures, news, tour dates, and other useful information. I clicked on the tab at the top that said biography. My goal was to collect some facts that work in my favor to strengthen the ethos appeal.
Next I clicked on the tab that was listed as Audio. I scrolled down his songs until I reached the one that I was searching for. I listened to the song once again in order to refresh my memory so I could find new ideas and points that I could use as part of my argument.
The advantages of my search are that I have found out more than I originally knew about the rapper and his motivation to become a rapper. I did not know he was a CEO of his own rap label first. Disadvantages did exist, however, on my search to find out more about him. I am not sure to trust the credibility of the different sites. Jeezy has made it known that he was a drug dealer as a youngster, but the different sites try to mask that part of his past for one reason or the other.

Hip Hop Culture
When one thinks of the hip-hop culture of today what usually comes to mind is rappers, girls, money, and clubbing. Images of young African Americans with baggy clothes, a lot of jewelry, big booties, and dancing are usually what are depicted in the minds of many people. American figures such as Jay Z, Lil Wayne, T.I., and Ludacris have dominated the scene of the hip-hop culture so much that we forget that hip hop is not limited to just us Americans.
Hip hop culture is a global movement that involves all types’ people from many different walks of life as well as backgrounds. It is a subculture opened for any other culture, race, or gender to participate in freely. Yes Hip Hop was created in and largely controlled in the States, but it does exist in other countries, provinces, and cities then our own here in America. For example, the artist known as The Streets contributes to what we know as Hip Hop culture. He is a white British rapper that has gain a large fan bas and he has reached a high level of success in UK, unfortunately his success will never one of Biggie or Tupac only because of his individual culture and the one of the States are not the same.
The United States is the Mecca of hip hop and hip hop culture. An artist work usually is a reflection of their larger culture association, and a person like The Streets will not sell many records here because his culture not match the hip hop culture America. What The Streets raps about will be about what his life is like and what he faces from day to day. He will not be able to relate as well as Jay Z can to a young black male living in New York. His culture is reflected by his lyrics in all in songs, and there fore you can say his hip hop culture is the directly defined by his large culture association. Because to be an effective artist of any kind your work will have to be credible, and so his way of life (culture) is a credible source
